Auckland, New Zealand.

I made it to Auckland on Sunday evening! Kevin picked me up from the airport and went to bed straight away.

Monday moring, while Kevin had his last exam (A++++, or so he says), I walked around the University of Auckland and went to the Auckland Museum in the Auckland Domain. Kevin joined me later and we hiked Mount Eden and Mount Hobson in the afternoon.

Later in the evening, Kevin surprised me with dinner at the Auckland Skytower. We took the elevator up 192m and had gorgeous views of the city in the observation desk and then went to the Orbit restaurant for a lovely dinner.

We picked up our campervan this morning and are off to the Waitomo caves tonight!

Packing, packing, packing!

One more day to go! I fly out tomorrow morning and the only thing that is standing in my way of getting to New Zealand is four flights. Yes, that's correct. FOUR. Calgary to Los Angeles to Tokyo to Singapore to Auckland! Haha. The life of a frugal student traveller!


We will update the blog once I have made it safely to Auckland, and may or may not be slightly jet lagged at that point!

3 WEEKS TO GO!

We finished booking our hostels yesterday and Kristen has finalized the travel itinerary (just in case Kevin ever gets separated - he will know what he should be doing every hour...Haha).

New Zealand: June 24 - July 2

Auckland, Waitomo, Mount Taranaki  & New Plymouth, Lake Taupo, Rotorua & Tauranga, Whitianga, and Rangitoto. We will be renting a caravan and camping around the north island of New Zealand. We plan to go caving, hiking, and spend some time at the hot water beaches.

Thailand: July 3 - 17

Bangkok, Chang Mai, Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, and Railay. We will visit temples, markets, and do a day trip to Kanchanaburi. Then we head to the islands for a week of scuba diving (finish our open water certification), rock climbing, swimming, and beaches!

Malaysia: July 18 - 22

Melaka, Cameron Highlands, and Kuala Lumpur. We are going to visit the cultural town of Melaka before we head to the Cameron Highlands to do some hiking. We will stay in KL for a few days as well and plan to visit the Batu Caves.

Bali: July 23-29

Ubud and Kuta. We are going to rent a motorcycle for the week and explore the little Indonesian island. We plan to go scuba diving, snorkeling, cycling around Ubud (volcano and rice fields), and visit the Uluwatu temple.

Singapore: July 30 - August 1

We plan to visit the botanical gardens, museums, chinatown, the Empress Place, and Sentosa Island. 

Return to Calgary: August 2

South Pacific here we come!!

Kevin is currently living in New Zealand this semester while studying at the University of Auckland. After we are both finished school, I will go and meet up with him in New Zealand. We just finished booking all of our tickets this past week! We are traveling through New Zealand (North Island), Thailand (Bangkok, Chang Mai, Puket), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and West Coast), Bali, and Singapore for the summer and wanted to keep a blog to update family and friends! We will update the blog leading up to the trip and as much as we can while we are overseas. Two months to go! Stay tuned!
